Night Offshore Fishing with Uncle Soh

9th September 2010 Evening to 10th September 2010
Tide : High
Current : Strong & Rough

Upon reaching our destination at around 6pm, Uncle Soh drove us up to our 1st Spot.
Our catch @ the 1st Spot: - Red Snapper Spot
1) 3 x Red Snappers
2) 2 x Fat Ah Seng

Realising that the Ah Sengs had invaded the spot, we decided to move on the the 2nd Spot.

Our Catch @ the 2nd Spot: - Supposingly to be the Red Snapper spot.
1) 1 x Baby Shark
2) 1 x Eel
3) 1 x Unknown (Looks like Stonefish but Uncle Soh said that it's not poisonous.)
4) 1 x Baby Stingray

Since the Red Snappers are not biting, Uncle Soh decided to bring us to the 3rd spot. Known to be the fishes Playground. However, fishes are not biting as well.

Our Catch @ the 3rd Spot:
1) 1 x Flower Crab
2) 1 x Muddy Crab
3) 2 x Baby Squid
4) 1 x Fat Squid

The night wasn't good at all. Uncle Soh Decided to bring us to the 4th Spot instead. At this 4th Spot, we took a nap and await for the sun to raise. Uncle Soh woke up much earlier than us, roughly about 6am, drop our line and awaits for the bite. However, our 15 pound line was broke a few times when the fishes started to bite. Realising that we have no time to spare, Uncle Soh decided to wake us up and told us to prepare the 50pound line.

Not Long after changing the 50 pound line, Uncle Soh Rod Bents and he strikes; Hand his rod to me and allows me to fight with the fish. Up came our 1st Queenie:

Soon after the 1st Queenie was caught. I felt my bait bitten twice and suddenly, the beauty bite my bait and ran. Immediately i strike, battle for 30mins and up came our 2nd Queenie (est. 10kg) having a small sucker fish sticked to the body.

After retrieving our 2nd Queenie onboard. A bait was replaced on my Salty Fighter and place on the holder while i try to tie more hook. Before i can finish up the hook, my Rod bents and the Reel went 'Zzzzzzzzz.....' Uncle Soh ran towards my rod, took it up and strike. Passed it to our friend (a new fisherman onboard) and allows him to fight.

After the 3rd Queenie was caught. A boat was seen near us and the fishes went quiet. No bite for the next 15mins.

Uncle Soh Decided to shift us to the next spot known as the Grouper spot. Upon Reaching... ...
Our Catch Report @ the last spot:
1) 2 x Grouper
2) 1 x Ang Kuey
3) 1 x Kachi

Offshore Fishing with James @ Changi Sea

It was a sunny and great day for offshore fishing yesterday... I woke up at 0700hrs, slightly overslept, as my friends & I are suppose to meet at Punggol Marina @ 0800hrs for the sailing.

James's Boat

We started the morning slow and boring... The first 2 spots we went i didn't even have a single bite though my friends were grumbling that they missed striking the fish. BUT the waiting is definitely worth it~ I felt a small bite and immediately strike my rod. To my surprise, my newly purchased rod (which i bought it 1 day before our trip) bent into a 'C' Shape and 3/4 of the line went all the way out.

My Newly Purhased Limited Edition Salty Fighter with my Daiwa Procaster 3000X Reel

It was a tough fight. Surprisingly & unbelievable that we manage to capture the 12kg+ Stingray in about 45mins on my 30 pounds reel line & 10 pounds end line.

The Big, Fat 12kg+ Stingray

Though we didn't manage to catch lots of fishes (2 small stingray, 1 Dory fish & 1 Big Stingray), i ended my trip with fulfillment. This is the 1st time i had such a great fight.

Summary: Unsatisfied with the sunburnt & Aching body. Satisfied with the battling.

Relaxation & Fishing @ Batam View Resort

Feeling Bored and tired of Singapore, i decided to have a short relaxation & fishing trip over to Batam. I had a 2D1N stay in Batam View. From the staffs, i understand that we are able to rental a boat @ S$150/- (3hrs) and head offshore for a better experience. Through the conversations with the staffs, i understand that Parrot Fish is the season fishes found around there now. Other common catch will be Catfish, Baby Shark, Stingray, Seabass... ... which are said to be of a good catch offshore....

Therefore, i decided that my next trip to Batam... I qould love to spend this additional S$150/- for a different experience... ....

View from my 1 bedroom Villa of the Jetty where you can fish.

My 1st Parrot Fish caught. Steamed and it's NICE~

This is the balcony where i spent the entire day in for fishing. There was alot of bite, but i didn't manage to strike all... The Fishes are fast man~

A table size Catfish Caught

The scary Eel caught which tangle up my line. In the end, i had to cut the line and release it... Which i also understand from the staff the next day upon checking out that there's lots of electric eel around their compound. I'm glad none of us touch it~
